Strokes FC to defend Pienaar Cup title

Expectation and excitement are building up as the annual Steven Pienaar Community Cup opened for registration recently. With the successful and largely followed Strokes FC as defending champions attempting to be the first team to successfully defend the cup.

As Strokes FC are the defending champions, fireworks can be expected from them as they represent Eldorado Park in the intriguing campaign.

Coach of Strokes FC Nathan Davies thanks the community of Eldorado Park for their continued support. Chairman Shaun Govender said, “I would like to thank Casamia for sponsoring Strokes FC – jou leka ding.”

Strokes FC, nicknamed Strokes ‘jou leka ding’, is a community based team from Eldorado Park, which was established in 2006. Strokes have won numerous amounts of tournaments namely The Nedbank Cup, P.A Cup, Steven Pienaar Community Cup as well as the Kliptown Easter Tournament.

Strokes Fc has produced Five Premier Soccer League players, Four Diski players and a few National First Division players. They go by the motto: Sit hom neer sonny which is a fundamental part of their style of football that they play.

The Steven Pienaar tournament had approximately 46 teams in the tournament and this is its sixth year in operation. All roads to lead to Westbury as soccer teams prepare for the campaign.

The 2017 edition of the campaign will be played on June 10, 11, 16, 17 and 18 at the Westbury Soccer Fields.

Up for grabs is a cash price of R70 000 to the winners of the cup, R35 000 for the runners-up and the quarterfinalists will receive Puma Soccer Kit.
