Jowest LFA brings more talent to the Steven Pienaar Youth Tournament

Sunday's Super League on the Westbury grounds.

The annual Steven Pienaar Youth Tournament as began at the Westbury grounds with fans coming from all over to watch the home teams in action.

The tournament is fixed on a round-robin with the super league, under 19, under 13, under 11 and the ladies annual all participating in the past weekend’s tournament.

All in all, the Jowest league has 115 teams who are participating and a few outside teams are also partaking in the tournament.

“It’s the kick-off of our tournament so it went off very well. It’s the first time that we having ladies in the Steven Pienaar tournament so that’s a historic event to have this.

“We have 10 teams and they all play in the league, we just have one outside team that playing,” said Reidwan Sallie, the chairman of Jowest LFA.

It’s boys vs girls in the U9 games.

The Juniors will play from the weekend of May 20 until June 10 when the big open play, where the professionals play in the league, a draw that is planned to take place on June 3 at Club Salsa to decide on the match fixtures for the pro league.

According to Sallie, there are four groups, the top two teams from each group progress to the quarter-finals that will be on June 3, then the quarter-finals and the semi-finals will be played on June 10 and 11 with the finals being on June 16 and on June 18 the senior finals will take place.

The finals for both events will take place at the Union Stadium in Westbury.

The chairman would like to thank Westbury Primary School for allowing them to use the field. The community always lacks facilities and the utilisation of the field helps with tournaments of this stature.

There is no shortage of footballing prowess amongst the youth in the community and residents are urged to come in their droves to watch the youngsters put on a display worthy of the world’s biggest soccer stages.
