It’s a new day for Dawn – this is what went down at the brand relaunch

Earlier this month, Dawn introduced their brand relaunch and announced the establishment of their new mentorship programme in collaboration with non-governmental organisation SAYes Youth Mentoring at Style Studios, in Braamfontein.

The relaunch was hosted in the company of influential women and men, each exclusively invited to share in the night because of the value they held as reputable and accessible means of support, guidance, and inspiration for everyone there.

The theme of the night was confidence, a notion Dawn’s latest brand initiative aims to create and instil amongst young South African women, physically, emotionally and professionally.

“It all starts with how you feel and how you look and we as a brand want to show women that when you feel confident and you look confident and you’re glowing and you shine, you can step out into the world and continue to glow and shine with beauty and confidence knowing that you got this,” said Yamangalisa Mbatha, brand manager at Unilever.

Dawn’s belief in the power of self-confidence is complemented with their new hashtag #YouGotThis which aims to encourage women in knowing that they can conquer any challenge and persevere through adversity.

“We really want to be able to create networks of mentors that are able to help these younger women and give young women that confidence that they need to be the best version of themselves,” said Mbatha.

Television presenter and personality, Thembisa Mdoda hosted the event.

“Dawn is an inspirational medium tonight, for all of us to sponge off each other, for all of us to listen to each other, to look at each other and appreciate each other and what we all have,” said Mdoda.

Guest speakers and panellists shared their success stories, describing the tribulations they had to overcome and the ways in which they defied their adverse circumstances in order to achieve success and attain confidence.

Included in the panel was a make-up artist and celebrity stylist, Merlene Williams, sports presenter and radio personality, Mpho Maboi, PR guru and entrepreneur Allegro Dinkwanyane, business executive, Phuti Mahanyele and co-founder and executive director of SAYes, Michelle Potter.

“Confidence to me is confiding in yourself. You remind yourself what is great about you,” said Williams. Dinkwanyane, Maboi, and Williams will all give their time to mentoring young women in partnership with SAYes.

The night was a success, leaving many attendees in admiration of the stories shared and the positive pledges made towards women empowerment.

“I think it was actually a very beautiful event. I think it’s very inspiring when other people are trying to promote women and to make sure that every female feels beautiful in her own way,” said attendee, Larissa Subramoney, blogger of The Lipstick Diary.

“It was encouraging to see women pledging to build each other up,” added Nomali Cele, blogger of Nomali from Soweto.

Dawn wants the conversation to continue.
